Indian Nonprofit Scales its HIV Treatment and Prevention Mission

YRG CARE is one of the oldest organizations focused on AIDS on the subcontinent. Initially focused on awareness and education around HIV and sexuality, it later added an outpatient clinic, an inpatient ward and laboratory services. Over its 25-year history, the nonprofit has aided more than 20,000 HIV-positive individuals, along with more recent expansion into care for those with hepatitis C, tuberculosis, STDs and other infectious diseases.

YRG CARE Gains Critical Insights and Efficiencies

Scalability for growth across India: Growing in the mid-2000s, YRG CARE began to expand beyond its headquarters in Chennai to bring clinical care, education and research to underserved areas elsewhere in India. That growth demanded a more scalable, accessible system than YRG CARE had with its previous environment of Tally Software, spreadsheets and paper-based manual processes.

Channeling savings into social impact: Leveraging a software donation from Oracle NetSuite Social Impact since 2011, YRG CARE has trimmed its accounting staff from 12 employees to eight, even as its budget grew from $1.2 million to as much as $4.4 million. It also saves two full-time employees previously needed for procurement, and has cut its monthly financial close time from 45 to 10 days.

Better accountability to funders: YRG CARE also has better financial accountability with NetSuite’ audit-ready platform, important for securing funding from government and other sources monitoring budgets. And it can track critical expiration dates on medications with NetSuite Advanced Inventory, and better fulfill tax reporting obligations to the Indian government. Going forward, YRG CARE is confident it has the ideal platform for its mission.
