Specialty Shirt-Maker Innovates by Sweating the Small Stuff

Like many Americans, Billy Thompson suffers from a condition that causes him to sweat excessively from his underarms known as hyperhidrosis. For years, he couldn’t find an answer. Then, a decade ago, Thompson turned to fellow hyperhidrosis sufferer and textile veteran Randy Choi. The two developed an undershirt made of a patented material that blocks moisture while allowing vapor transfer—and Thompson Tee was born.

Direct to Consumer with a Direct Message

Sharing the personal
Thompson quickly discovered an important (and familiar) characteristic about hyperhidrosis sufferers: They desperately want a solution, but they do not want to talk about their condition. Making their experiences part of the company story, Thomson and Choi launched the direct to consumer business through a website and Amazon after evaluating multiple alternatives.
Finding the right ERP fit
As demand grew and Thompson had to expand its production and distribution capabilities, the company, which ran on Brightpearl for retail management and Magento for ecommerce, ran into numerous data redundancy issues. After years of considering it, Thompson and Choi deployed NetSuite in 2019 in 100 days.
Charging into a new reality
During the COVID-19 pandemic, Thompson Tee began making facemasks as a way to give back and made it a permanent product offering even as it continues its international expansion selling through Amazon.
