me&u Takes Its Food-Ordering Platform Overseas With NetSuite OneWorld

Founded in 2018, me&u’s food-ordering and payments platform is helping to revolutionise the hospitality industry. Using near-field communication technology, me&u’s beacon, a small device that sits on tables in bars and restaurants, allows patrons to view menus, order and pay on their phones. The platform encourages greater customer spend with its ease of ordering. Simplification on the Menu

Supersized growth
In the past year, me&u has grown from 40 employees to 110 and from 50 to over 1000 venues on the platform, and it’s set to double in size again before the end of 2022. Headquartered in Sydney, Australia, the business has now expanded into New Zealand, the U.K. and the U.S. It has already raised more than $8 million USD in funding.
Systems smorgasbord
me&u started out running its financials on Xero. As it grew, it added Spotlight Reporting for consolidation, Expensify for expense claims, and separate apps for forecasting, process mapping and payroll. Spreadsheets supplemented everything. Even with this complex web of systems, the team used time-consuming, manual processes to manage revenue and release funds to bars and restaurants from patrons' purchases on the platform.
Serving up efficiency
About two years ago, me&u replaced its patchwork of systems with NetSuite ERP with the help of Jcurve, a partner. Month-end close was reduced from five days to two, and the finance team saved 20 hours per week previously spent managing revenue in spreadsheets. As it expanded globally, me&u upgraded to NetSuite OneWorld to support new currencies and automate multi-currency transactions in the U.S., New Zealand and Australian dollars, as well as the British pound.
The next course
me&u is planning to further use NetSuite’s forecasting, reporting and cash management capabilities to improve its operations, especially scenario planning in case of future lockdowns. The team also plans to customise NetSuite dashboards so new team members across the globe will be able to quickly understand how their region is performing via country-specific metrics.
