Kane County Cougars Celebrate 30 Years of Star-Studded Minor League Baseball

For nearly 30 years, ever since moving from Wausau, Wisc., the Kane County Cougars have been entertaining baseball fans at their baseball park in Geneva, Ill., a Chicago suburb. Currently a single-A affiliate of the Arizona Diamondbacks, the Cougars have sent more than 170 players to the Major Leagues, including legends like Josh Beckett, Miguel Cabrera and Adrián González.

Delivering every part of the fan experience
While Major League Baseball handles player movement and salaries, the minor league club is responsible for all other business operations. For the Cougars, that includes ticketing, parking, concessions, partnerships and advertising with a full-time staff of 20 and about 600 in-season staff. The business brings in $8 million in revenue per year.
Held up by Navision
Yet budgets are still tight in minor league baseball, and the club often neglected to update the Microsoft Navision (Dynamics NAV) system it used for financials due to costs and business upheaval. That forced staff into cumbersome manual processes. Just emailing a sales order to a customer could be a five-step process.
A home run with NetSuite
Inspired by other sports teams running the system, including the nearby Chicago Fire, and the automatic upgrades twice a year, the Cougars implemented NetSuite OneWorld in just 100 days with NetSuite Professional Services to manage customer and financial data. It has transformed reporting, email marketing and simplified processes across six subsidiaries.
Leveraging Learning Cloud Support
As it moved from a Navision instance multiple upgrades behind to NetSuite’s modern, cloud-based ERP, the team’s staff used Learning Cloud Support to get up to speed on the new system and will continue to use it as the organisation grows and adapts.
